About us

We walk because
we live here.

Verdant started the way most decent things start: two people who couldn't stop doing something decided to make it official. James and Clare founded the company in 2018 after fifteen years of walking WA's trails on their own time, mapping routes that don't appear in guidebooks, learning the country the slow way.

Our guides aren't seasonal hires. They're locals who've spent decades in WA bush, who know the weather patterns, the wildlife corridors, the history of the country underfoot. They've walked every route we offer dozens of times, in every season. That's what you're paying for: knowledge that comes from showing up, year after year.

We keep groups small because we're not running a bus tour. Maximum six walkers per guide. That ratio means you get actual conversation, actual attention to pace, actual adjustment when conditions change. It also means the country stays quiet. We walk through it; we don't trample it.

Private walks

Your walk.
Your way.

Custom walks exist because no two groups are the same. Corporate teams wanting something more meaningful than a conference room. Families celebrating milestones in a place worth remembering. Solo walkers who want a guide but not a crowd. We build the route, handle the logistics, and match you with the right guide for the terrain.

Reviews

What walkers say.

"We booked Cape to Cape for our anniversary. James knew every inlet, every shortcut, every place the whales surface. Four days of walking and we didn't look at our phones once."

Sarah M.
Subiaco

"Took my team of eight on a corporate retreat walk. They came back different. No trust falls, no PowerPoints -- just three days in the Stirling Range. Best investment I've made in company culture."

Michael T.
Perth CBD

"I've walked independently for years but going with Verdant was something else. They know the country -- not just the trails, but the weather patterns, the wildlife corridors, the history. You learn things a map won't tell you."

Questions

Straight answers.

Q01
What fitness level do I need?

Depends on the walk. Half-day Darling Range suits anyone who walks regularly. Multi-day tracks need decent cardiovascular fitness and broken-in boots. We'll be honest about what's required when you enquire.

Q02
What's included?

Guiding, camping or accommodation, all meals and water on multi-day walks, route planning. You bring boots, layers, personal items. We handle tents, cooking, and logistics. Not included: travel to trailhead or personal insurance.

Q03
How big are the groups?

Maximum six. Always. We don't do "group hikes" -- we do small-party guided walking. Private walks are just your group.

Q04
What if the weather turns?

We walk in weather. Rain gear is on your packing list. If conditions are genuinely unsafe (severe storms, bushfire risk), we reschedule at no cost. We've been doing this long enough to read a forecast.
